Mashru is woven so the silk floats on the face and the cotton sits underneath. It was made that way for people who wanted the shine of silk without it touching them — a practical solution that became a signature stripe.

We drew this in Bhuj, in the idiom of the craft. It is our drawing — not a reproduction of any weaver's cloth, and not handwoven mashru.
