Rogan Tree Coaster – Kutch Rogan Art Print

Rogan art — painted with castor oil, never touching the cloth.

In Nirona, castor oil is boiled for days until it turns to a thick paste, then trailed onto cloth on the tip of a metal stylus held just above the surface. The artist folds the cloth to print the other half, which is why every Rogan piece is perfectly symmetrical.

We drew this in Bhuj, in the idiom of the craft. It is our drawing — not a reproduction of any artisan's work, and not handmade Rogan.
